Across the lagoon from the main Venice landmass is San Giorgio Maggiore, a much smaller but picturesque island. On it the Vatican has commissioned eleven chapels by architects from around the world. This is @seangodsellarchitects’ contribution, a sublime zinc tower whose operable panels lift up to create a cruciform shape in plan, as well as evoke memories of that other type of shrine: the humble Aussie barbecue.
