Jake’s Journey: working his way through the great architecture (and engineering) of the United States, Jake’s fourth favourite building so far is the Hoover Dam, Nevada 1936.

Fun facts: the dam is a gravity arch, its strength enhanced by the lateral pressure of the water it was built to resist.
